Year 4 Living things and their habitats Your students will love this fantastic pack of science activities, ideal for supporting teaching of the Year 4 Science unit 'Living things and their habitats'! Included are six activities: -Sort it! Students sort animals in different ways, recording their reasoning. -Group it! Students group animals according to their animals class (mammal, reptile, amphibian, insect, bird or fish). -Match it! Students match up the cards into sets of a) animal class, b) characteristics and c) example. -Describe it! Students describe the impact humans have had on the environment in the photographs (deforestation, garden pond, litter on a beach and African national park). -Observe it! Students draw and describe a local habitat throughout the four season. They describe the impact on the local animals and plants. -Define it! Students match the topic vocabulary to its definitions. Included are detailed, clear instructions on how to set up the activities. This pack of Science activities, aligned to the New Science National Curriculum 2014, is ideal for supporting teaching of Year 4 States of Matter unit focusing on solids, liquids and gases and changes of state. Included are six activities: -Sort it! Students sort the 12 materials cards into solids, liquids and gases. Answers included. -Investigate it! Students investigate how temperature affects the rate of ice cubes melting. -Describe it! Students think of an example of each state of matter. They describe the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Sample answers included. -Explain it! Students describe the role of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle. Sample answers included. -Change it! Students describe the change of state in each photograph. These are; clothes drying on a washing line, ice cream melting, icicles forming and condensation forming on a window. Sample answers included. -Order it! In this activity students research the melting point of various materials. They record the melting points and then order the materials along the image of a thermometer from highest melting point to lowest. Answers included in both degrees Celsius and degrees Fahrenheit. Included are detailed, clear instructions on how to set up the activities and the additional equipment needed for 'Investigate it!'. Also included is a KWL (what I know already, what I would like to know and what I learnt [UKS version also included - what I learned]) for students to complete prior and after the unit.

Included are seven activities: -Identify it! Students identify items that use electricity and those that do not. -Build it! Students predict whether the circuits will light the bulb. They build the circuits to test their predictions. -Sort it! Students sort the images into those that are electrical conductors and those that are electrical insulators. -Investigate it! Students investigate what happens to a bulb in a circuit as more batteries are added. -Create it! Students design their own switch to turn a bulb on and off in a series circuit. -Avoid it! Students describe why the images of electrical hazards are potentially dangerous. -Define it! Year 4 Electricity Unit Students match the topic vocabulary to its definitions. Pupils label the features of their greenhouse and how they help plants to grow well. -Match up the cards into sets of a) term, b) image and c) description. -Order the stages of the lifecycle of a sunflower. -Explain how air, sunlight, water and soil help plants to grow well. -Describe the plant terms on the card (set of 12 cards included), without saying the three forbidden words on their card. This fantastic pack of science activities is ideal for supporting teaching of the Year 3 Rocks unit in the New National Curriculum 2014. Included are seven activities: -Describe it! Students identify the rocks in the photographs and describe their appearance and texture. -Sort it! Print, laminate and cut up the cards. Students match the rocks (a) to their properties (b) and uses (c). Alternate Uk spelling option included. -Match it! Students sort the images into those that are electrical conductors and those that are electrical insulators -Use it! Students look at the photographs (slate roof tiles, marble archway, granite kitchen surface and writing chalk). They write about why the properties of each particular rock suit the purpose it is being used for in the photograph. -Investigate it! Students plan and carry out an investigation to test rock permeability. -Observe it! Students carry out a simple experiment to separate the materials in clay, loamy and sandy soil. They draw diagrams of their findings. Included are detailed, clear instructions on how to set up the activities. Also included is a KWL (what I know already, what I would like to know and what I learnt) for student to complete prior to and after the unit. Please note: Some of the activities require additional resources. These include samples of different rock types (i.e. chalk, limestone, sandstone, marble, granite and slate), magnifying lenses, clear containers for soil experiment and pipettes.
